Superfoods are considered to be nutrient powerhouses that provide large quantities of antioxidants, phytochemicals (chemicals in plants responsible for colors and smells), vitamins and minerals.  Superfoods are also rich in good fats, healthy enzymes, and other healthy properties. Most Superfoods are plant-based, but some fish and dairy also make the cut. Examples of popular Superfoods include salmon, kale, berries, nuts, lentils, spinach, broccoli, etc.

The high vitamin and mineral content found in Superfoods can help your body ward off diseases and keep you healthier. When incorporated into a well-balanced diet, these foods can promote heart health, weight loss, improve energy levels and even reduce the effects of aging.

Most of Superfoods are rich in:

– Antioxidants that may help prevent cancer

Healthy fats that can reduce your risk of heart disease

Fiber, which can help prevent diabetes and digestive problems

Phytochemicals that have numerous health benefits including reducing your risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

There are Superfoods that:

– may protect your organs from toxins,

help lower cholesterol,

– regulate metabolism

reduce inflammation, etc.

The importance of Superfoods is scientifically proven. Countless research has proven that they’re an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Superfoods are dense in vitamins, fiber, protein, and other nutrients our bodies need to feel energized and ward off disease.

On the other hand, nutrient deficiencies can have devastating effects:  a  lack of vitamin D in your diet can lead to bone weakness later in life,  an Omega 3 deficiency can cause fatigue and even depression, etc. Therefore… The sooner you start to include Superfoods in your diet, the better off your body will be.

Fresh Veggie salad with Egg and HamA well-balanced and nutritious diet should include fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, legumes, and nuts while limiting the intake of sodium, refined sugar and bad fats. When combined with exercise or regular physical activity, a healthy, nutritious diet can work wonders for your health.

It’s important to note that eating Superfoods alone does not contribute to a healthy diet. Eating too much of one type of food can prevent you from getting all of the nutrients you need. For this reason, Superfoods should be added to a well-balanced diet, not replace one.

When adding Superfoods to your diet, be aware that unprocessed, natural varieties offer the most benefits. Eating more brightly colored fruit and vegetables is the simplest way to dramatically improve your health. A research report published in March 2014 found that eating 7 or more portions of fruit and vegetables daily reduces the risk of death from any cause, by unbelievable 42%.  This and similar research results together with mentioned Superfoods facts could be the answer to our question: “Are Superfoods good for you?”
