Also, as reported by the Washington Post: “Even those who ate nuts less than once a week had a seven percent reduction in risk. Consuming nuts at least five times a week corresponded to a 29 percent drop in mortality risk for heart disease, a 24 percent decline in respiratory disease and an 11 percent drop for cancer.”

I only buy organic, raw and unsalted walnuts. The reason is simple  – organic, raw and unsalted walnuts are much healthier than other walnuts. When walnuts are heated or roasted, they lose some of their minerals, enzymes, and nutrients.

STORE IN THE FRIDGE

As soon as I get them home, I immediately put them in the fridge, ideally in an air-tight container. Storing them this way will keep them fresh longer and will help prevent them from going rancid. If you won’t need them for month or more, you can store them in your freezer.

  1. I like walnuts. I always stored them at room temperature but will now keep them in the refrigerator. I never realized its nutritional value until this review, that an ounce can deliver so much fiber and protein. Is there any downside to eating too much of it?

  2. I have to say, it’s a relief I’m not allergic to walnuts! I also love walnuts, but they can be a tad bit pricey. I read your about me and saw that Mediterranean Diet is the highly suggested diet by nutritionists. I will definitely look into that!
